Information for Rovers, Leaders and Other Adults

This page contains information for Leaders, Rovers and other adults who wish to attend Venture Wellington. Although the Venturer is an activity for Venturers we couldn’t run it without the help and support of adults like you. So we are very glad that are interested in coming to Venture Wellington and helping to make it the most awesome New Zealand Venture ever!

Adult Roles

Adults (i.e. anyone over Venturer age) may attend the Venture either as a leader with a Unit or as a member of staff.

All Venturers attending Venture Wellington will be organised into Units on the basis of the Phase 1 Expedition they have chosen. Each Unit will be assigned leaders (on roughly a 1:8 ratio). Those leaders will be responsible for overseeing the operation of their Unit throughout the Venture. They will participate in the Phase 1 expedition with their Unit and organising their Unit in preparation for it, but are not responsible for running the expedition – this is the responsibility of the Expedition Leader (a staff member appointed by the Venture Programme Director). Unit leaders will, however, be expected to assist with the expedition as requested by their expedition leader.

During Phase 2 Unit Leaders will camp with their Unit so as to be close at hand in case of emergency etc. Although Venturers within their Unit will undertake activities on a more individual basis rather than as an overall Unit during Phase 2, Unit Leaders will still be responsible for overseeing the welfare of the Venturers within their Unit during this phase. Unit Leaders will also be able to participate in Phase 2 activities including acting as bus captains or activity assistants.

Staff members will work in one of the five Venture Branches: Programme, Health and Welfare, Safety Management, Site Services, Promotion and Administration, Transport and Finance. They will be responsible for undertaking such duties as are assigned to them by their Branch Director.
