The Programme for Venture Wellington contains heaps of activities with plenty of choices and lots of opportunities for you to experience new things to “open your eyes”. It will work like this.
The first day of Venture Wellington is 1 January 2010. This is the day that everyone will arrive on site at Brookfield; you may arrive from late morning onwards and must be on site no later than 4pm. When you arrive you will meet up with the rest of your expedition Venturer Unit and set up camp together. The Venture opening ceremony and kick-off party will happen that evening.
On the morning of Saturday 2 January everyone will depart on their expedition. The expeditions are located throughout the greater Wellington region and will last for four days. There are 13 different expeditions to choose from and there is something for everyone - whether it is Caving or Scuba Diving or Dancing or Sightseeing. When you register you will give us your three top expedition choices and we will work from there to do our best to give you what you want.
On the last night of your expedition you will have a party with the rest of your expedition before returning to Brookfield on 6 January. The rest of that day is to chill, do laundry etc before Phase 2 kicks off the following day.
Phase 2 is the second half of the Venture. It starts on the morning of 7 January (that’s the day after your rest day) and runs for four days until the closing ceremony on the evening of 10 January. Phase 2 consists of a huge range of onsite and offsite activities, all of which are individual free choice i.e. you get to choose what you want to do, and when you want to do it. If you want to just hang and do nothing – well you can do that too.
There are three sets of Phase 2 activities for you to do:
The Phase 2 onsite activities are all at Brookfield and include active, adventurous, crafty, social, and chill out activities. They range from a Rover Cafe to Archery, from a Movie Theatre to Excavators, from Paintball to a Grafitti Wall. Some onsite activities must be pre-booked while others are just walk-in; and all are free (with the exception of Paintball which costs $10 per 100 balls).
The Phase 2 offsite activities will happen around the Wellington area and provide high adventure opportunities for those so inclined. The activities include Highrope Adventures, Fishing, Glider Flights, and even skydiving. All offsite activities will need to be pre-booked and carry an additional cost. Not all Phase 2 offsite activities will necessarily operate every day, so you’ll need to do some planning!
The Wellington City Visit is a free trip into Wellington for the day to do some sightseeing and shopping. The trip is free but the shopping isn’t!
Day time activities are not the only thing happening during Phase 2. When it gets dark, Venture Wellington will be getting rowdy. Every evening from 7 January to 9 January (inclusive) there will be a tournament, theme, and party planned so there will be lots to check out.
Sunday 10 January is the last day of Venture Wellington. Phase 2 activities will run as normal during the day and then in the evening the fun and games really begin with the Closing Ceremony. That’s something that you’ll definitely not want to miss!
Departure day is Monday 11 January 2010 and everyone should plan to leave Brookfield by lunch time that day.
